Are you a church member or a disciple of Jesus and your leader?
That is the question that helps us as pastors and leaders deal with the lack of commitment in our local churches. Why do you have 20% of the church financing the church, participating in the meetings, and work behind the scene while others (80 % )are content just riding on the wagon?
I would like to share the outline of the messages by Pastor Chuck and Elder Dyer ministered to help us examine this issue.
What is the difference between a disciple and a member?
A disciple:
•Is willing to enforce the vision- Josh 1:16-18
•Is willing to play 2nd fiddle- 1 Sam 18:1-4
•Serves as a source of encouragement and refreshing to all in leadership-1 Sam16:21-23
•Respects authority- 1 Sam 24:1-6
•Is willing to take the heat/hit- 2 Sam23:15,16
•Leads the way in tithes and offerings-1Chron 29:3,5,6,9/ex 36:1-6
•Exhibits an attitude of submission to leader
•Submission- is humble obedience to another’s will
•A Disciple is a learner, student
•Puts their interests aside for time to focus on the interest of the leader
Seeks to understand or know the leader
•Leader has to obtain victory in areas to lead others i.e... marriage, finances
•People who put the mouths on leaders aren’t committed to anyone
•Peter know who Jesus was but let his guard down
•Must believe your leader is called and appointed to carry out the vision
Must be vision minded
